Cake Alternatives

Not every little one loves cake — and that’s absolutely fine. If a traditional cake isn’t the best fit, we offer a few fun, photogenic alternatives that work beautifully for first‑birthday sessions and keep the experience just as special.

Prefer a less messy session, or one for an older child or Adult? Simply book a Full Baby or Child/Family session and let us know it’s for a birthday!

FAQ.

  • As we have lots of neutral backdrops and floors we can do almost any colour scheme with the decorations and cake. We can do themes e.g jungle or floral etc. If you do want a theme we haven’t done before let us know and we can see if it will fit with your session’s budget (The Premium Collection has a larger budget).

  • For full fessions, yes! You can add individual images for £20 each.

    A mini session only includes the photographer-selected images. If you would like to have a proofing/viewing gallery, please be sure to select a Collection including a Full session.

  • In a full session we first begin with portraits, be it baby on his/her own plus with family if they are included with your collection. Then, during a cake smash, we move to the fun part! The little one might dive right in or they may take a little time to warm up, be messy or pick at it, we just won’t know until we let them try. We advise not to have expectations as no two babies are the same. Finally, it’s bath time! If your baby enjoys a bath it’s a great way to get more fun photos.

  • Yes! Cake Smash sessions include a 6-inch buttercream cake to match the setup. We can customise the colour and pattern of the cake. The only time we would not include the cake is in the case of an allergy. We can provide dairy-free cakes if needed.

  • We highly recommend letting little ones try a buttercream cupcake before the day, this gets them used to the taste and texture. We also wearing clothes you don’t mind getting dirty as you will likely get all messy too.
